“Retired Sacramento Bishop Francis Quinn was honored June 30 with a ‘Beacon of Hope’ award at the Crest Theatre in Sacramento, serenaded by the Sacramento Gay Men’s Chorus,” the story at California Catholic Daily begins. And ends, because that’s all you need to know about “Bishop” Quinn.
He’s calling for Vatican III, because V2 didn’t go far enough. Holy Mother Church must change Her teachings because Our Lord was wrong, hethinks:
“So many of the issues that Catholics deal with — divorce, homosexuality, premarital sex — center around sexuality and affect how they connect with the church,” Bishop Quinn told the publication. “We need to move beyond this circular logic and look at what is really happening in people’s lives.
Where’s the circularity? Marriage is a Sacrament instituted by Our Lord Himself — or does His Excellency prefer the loose, secular version, which is “full of sound and fury, signifying nothing?”
Homosexuality? Does he think Our Lord may have changed His mind on that in the past two millennia, in light of cultural changes? Are Truths not absolute, Your Excellency?
It’s a good thing that Bp. Quinn is retired, but a pity his obviously addled thoughts are still given the respect normally accorded people of sound Catholic mind. There was no pressing need for the second Vatican council; we certainly don’t need a third.
